2010 LIMITED EDITION CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT NOW ON SALE
2010 Ligonier Valley Christmas OrnamentThe Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the arrival of their 2010 Christmas in Ligonier Valley Limited Edition Treasured Scenes tree ornament. (photo coming soon) This year’s 2010 Christmas in the Ligonier Valley ornament is special as it commemorates the Grand Re-Opening of the Darlington Train Station.

A different landmark is featured each year. We are pleased to showcase the Darlington Train Station. The Ligonier Valley Rail Road Association has done a superb job of preserving, conserving, collecting memorabilia and educating the public about the history of the Darlington Station and railroading in the Ligonier Valley. The restoration of the station began in the fall of 2006 and stands complete with their Grand Re-opening in May. The LVRR connected Ligonier Valley with the rest of the world via the Pennsylvania RR at Latrobe, Pennsylvania. It also connected the rest of the world with Pennsylvania’s Mountain Playground, Ligonier Valley in general and Idlewild Park in particular. Originally only ten miles long, the line was extended six miles at the turn of the 20th century to service the coal fields north of Ligonier. The Railroad began operation in 1877 and during the course of its 75 years of operation it carried 9 million passengers and hauled 32 million tons of freight. The last run occurred on August 31, 1952. To see this fascinating addition to the many attractions located in the Ligonier Valley, plan a visit to the Station and see the turn-of-the-century craftsmanship on the exterior of the building, peruse the artifacts, relics, photographs and memorabilia on display, and reflect on years gone by.

Because the holiday ornaments are a “Limited Edition” item, it is recommended that residents purchase them early while supplies last. There are only 500 ornaments available for sale. The ornament is number 27 in the series and can be purchased at the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce office in Town Hall or online.. If you need Christmas ornaments from prior years, please call the Chamber office for their availability at 724-238-4200.
